Turn Your PC into a Media Server with izimi

izimi_logo.png is the future of Internet publishing. izimi allows you to serve files, photos, music and videos straight from your PC to anyone with a browser …Full Control of your media and that too totally FREE of cost ! isn't that interesting ? No uploading business and no hosting hassles too.. You can just publish and serve any file type, any size, any quantity to anyone – all you need is a web browser.

You must have seen lot of other providers like Pando which supports huge email attachments by using a special version of BitTorrent to serve up the file in p2p fashion. Box.net, Xdrive, and eSnips provides easy upload and sharing with large amounts of cheap or free space. Senduit offers a two-step process for uploading files and giving them a private URL. Titanize backs up your files to a secure online site and then allows you to share links to the backed up versions of the files.

izimi_server.jpg

But izimi is something different from all these usual providers. The coolest part of it is , if you’re willing to keep your computer on(like me) and sacrifice your bandwidth, anyone and everyone can see your files through a browser. Basically, izimi figures out wherever your computer is at the moment, and redirects a URL that appears to be hosted on izimi.com to your computer.

The izimi website aggregates the content that users are publishing into a social network with tags, ratings, and user profiles. This could make it into a potential YouTube rival .

Requirements :

1.8GHz Pentium 4 / AMD or above, minimum 256Mb RAM, broadband connection with at least 256Kbps upload bandwidth .

Note : Only problem is Izimi cannot be installed without the Microsoft .NET 2.0 framework.

Dell Inc is considering offering the Linux operating system as an alternative to Microsoft Corp.'s dell_gnulinux.jpg Windows on its personal computers, a Dell spokesman said on Tuesday.

The PC maker said it received more than 100,000 customer requests for Linux in a "suggestion box" posted on Dell's Web site less than three weeks ago.

As we all know GnuLinux is an open-source operating system that is generally available for free and can be used to run most computers, including Dell's PCs too..So why not ?

Making Linux available on other Dell PCs has been the top request since the Web site was launched on February 16.

The second most popular request was that Dell offer another popular free software title, OpenOffice, which competes with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Microsoft attacks Google on copyrights

Google's book-search Web site displays excerpts from copyrighted works. Some publishersph2007030602312.jpg have sued. (Bloomberg News)

Microsoft launched an unusually caustic public broadside yesterday against Google, accusing its archrival of running roughshod over copyrights as it creates an online service for searching books.

"It systematically violates copyright and deprives authors and publishers of an important avenue for monetizing their works," Rubin said, according to prepared remarks. "In doing so, it undermines critical incentives to create."

In response Google wrote :

In a short, written response Google Senior Vice President David C. Drummond said his company was cooperating with more than 10,000 publishers to put content on the Internet.

"The goal of search engines, and of products like Google Book Search and YouTube, is to help users find information from content producers of every size," Drummond said. "We do this by complying with international copyright laws and the result has been more exposure and in many cases more revenue for authors, publishers and producers of content."

We were very lucky to get to see this wonderful celestial event.I was up at 3.00am in the morning ( normally i don't get up before 7.00am in the morning - only to enjoy this event i had got up early.) and i can say it was a cherishing event altogether !! Those who missed it might not get another chance to see such wonderful event happening and visible to the naked eye.

How to Send executable Files via Gmail

As a security measure to prevent potential viruses, Gmail does not allow users to receive executable files (such as files ending in .exe) that could contain damaging executable code. Gmail does not accept these types of files, even if they are sent in a zipped (.zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, .gz) format. Any message of this type sent to your Gmail account will be bounced back to the sender.

This is one of the best tricks i have evolved and it works fine and perfect. For example if you have a file called "Gre_Test.exe" .While sending it to your friend just rename it to "Gre_Test.exe.remove".

Or you can rename it this way . "Gre_Test.exe" be renamed to "Gre_Test.doc" . You can rename it to any file extension you want. Just be careful that the recipient renames it and then he will be able to use it.

When you rename you may get a warning saying …this ..you just say yes.

rename_extension_gmail_trick.jpg

Then Send the file to the receipent. After the receipent recieve the file, ask them to rename the extension file with .remove and you have your original exe file back perfectly working .

Note :Renaming files can be tricky because windows hides the file extensions by default. Here's how to rename them:

    1. Open explorer and browse to the file you want to rename
    2. Click the Tools menu
    3. Click Folder Options
    4. Click View tab
    5. Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
    6. Click OK
    7. Now you should be able to see the extensions of your files.
    8. Right-click on the file
    9. Click Rename
    10. Rename the file and change the ending. For example, Gre_Test.exe to Gre_Test.bak.
    11. Now you can send it through gmail like any other attachment
    12. The receiver of the email will need to rename it back so he/she/it can use the file correctly.

Enjoy.
