Google Desktop 5 released in 29 languages

Google has now released the complete version of a ‘Google for your computer’, the Google Desktop that lets users search their computers at the same speed they can search the Internet and easily find all their files. ( Beta version was released earlier this month)

The features section on what’s inside the new Google Desktop 5 says the following about security: “We care about your security, and have added a feature to make your search experience safer and easier by helping to combat both phishing and malicious software websites. Whether you’re clicking on links from documents, IMs and e-mails on your desktop or browsing the web itself, you may receive a warning when you’re about to visit a site that might be trying to steal your personal information or install malicious software on your computer, so you can decide if you want to use the site.”

Some New features to look at in Google Desktop 5 :

The application involves a sidebar for the user's desktop environment, variety of "gadgets", designed to display a range of functions, including the time, photos and stock prices. Vista, the latest version of Windows, offers similar functionality to the desktop sidebar(is it a copy ??)..

- It also incorporates previews of desktop search results

- warnings for Web sites that may contain malware.

- It is visually more enhanced than its predecessors and Windows Vista's version.

- Some popular gadgets have also been redesigned.

PN : Google Desktop now has for the first time, supports Hindi along with 28 other languages.

Awesome cool , Google claims , you can now search your pc's at the same speed that they can search the internet.

IBM To Push Mainframes For Powering Virtual Worlds

IBM on Thursday said it's building a specialized-version of the mainframe that would incorporateibm_mainframes.jpg the Cell processor used in Sony's PlayStation 3 videogame console. The new computer is designed to power 3-D virtual environments for online gaming, business collaboration, mapping, and other applications requiring intensive data processing.

The project, which includes the help of Brazilian online game company Hoplon Infotainment, is meant to develop a new, and potentially lucrative, use for the mainframe, which has traditionally been used in banking, manufacturing, and other industries that need to process hundreds, if not thousands, of transactions a second.

The mainframe is an ideal platform for virtual environments, particularly online gaming, because of its ability to run multiple processors for computing-intensive applications, while also handling millions of simultaneous users, according to IBM. "As online environments increasingly incorporate aspects of virtual reality — including 3-D graphics and lifelike, meaningful real-time interaction among many simultaneous users — companies of all types will need a computing platform that can handle a broad spectrum of demanding performance and security requirements," Jim Stallings, general manager for IBM System z, said in a statement.

Note : Remember , somebody sometime ago had said " Mainframes are dead " — anybody remembers ??  The person who said it might not have even thought of utilizing the power of Mainframes upto this extent ..anyway .. Long Live IBM ..Long Live Mainframes.

It’s like Earth, but it will take 285,000 years to get there

wow..what a figure !! its awesome..That's what makes Gliese specialgliese_581_earth.jpg

Some Facts :

- Like Earth, it is a small planet — 1.5 times Earth's diameter.

- Planets of that size are not blobs of gas but rocky.

- It also orbits its parent sun at a distance where liquid water could exist (the estimated temperature is between 0 and 40 degrees).

- And liquid water could mean life.

- Maybe the first potentially habitable planet.

- We don't know if it's got an ozone shield or anything like that.

"There's probably millions or billions of them out there, but this is the first one to be found," said Malcolm Walter, director of the Australian Centre for Astrobiology at Macquarie University. "I don't think we know enough about it yet. It's still early days. I don't think we can say anything about interstellar life."

Open Source Hardware Makes its Debut in “Robot Internet Mashup”

Carnegie Mellon University researchers have developed a new series of robots that areqwerkbot3.jpg simple enough for almost anyone to build with off-the-shelf parts, but are sophisticated machines that wirelessly connect to the Internet.

Illah Nourbakhsh is a professor of robotics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, which has one of the world's most prestigious robotics programs, and his research is funded by the likes of Google, Intel and Microsoft. But in the end, he says, he does it for the kids.

Qwerkbot, a three-wheeled robot that can send images over the Internet, is one of several robots that can be built with the Telepresence Robot Kit (TeRK), a combination of a robot controller, commonly available parts and assembly instructions (recipes) developed by the CREATE Lab in Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute. Photo credit: Ken Andreyo/CMU

"[TeRK] is not only open from a software perspective, but also from a hardware perspective," Legrand says. "That's something this industry has never seen."

Things we can learn From Dil Chahta Hai

Things we can learn from Dil Chahta Hai .. ..

dch_1.jpg

+ Freaking out and enjoying life doesn ' t need drugs or cigarettes.

+ There are relationships apart from Bf/Gf, marriage, siblings, friendship that can be very emotional and true which is beyond the understanding of many people.

+ And yeah even though U may be the best of friends there is always a limit which should never be crossed. Then it starts hurting………..

+ Improving Ur imperfections after you realize it, always take some time.

+ You always don ' t need to show or prove your Gf/Bf how much U love or care about her/him, which can sound very boring and finally U R dumped.+ Believe in Love , true love will never let you down

+ Never be ashamed to go back to your old friends, friends are there to understand your mistakes.

+ Do not be afraid of others, always think that others are afraid of you. (remember the Australian Beggar at the railway station)

+ Whenever you need your friend, remember that he is just a phone call away…distances can ' t separate friends

+ In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends

+ It ' s the friends you can call up at 4 A. M. that matter.

+ The only unchangeable certainty is that nothing is certain or unchangeable.

+ The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with never say a word, and then walk away with a feeling like it was the best conversation you ' ve ever had.
