The most widely used video site Youtube, launches its Indian edition.This Indian version of Youtube(Desi Youtube) is being used by companies like Rajshri to market their serials.

There have been already many Indian videos on Youtube.Some of them are ,IIT Madras has put up advanced engineering classes, companies like eros entertainment,Rajshri Media use it to release movie trailors and serials and many colleges release their college videos too..

Really saying i am fed up of people asking PNR status to others when they are not at their pc desk. Even though Railway has made such a nice service of Railway enquiry through sms, people hardly use it.even the so called " tech geeks" rarely use..then whats the use of technology when its not being used for making the work easier ! So atleast from now on use Railway SMS Enquiry service to know your PNR status. I know its difficult to remember all the codes for train list, seat availability, etc.. but atleast PNR status is simple !  : PNR <PNR NO> and send it to 676747

Or if you cannot remember carry a printout of the codes for it !! lol..nono..u dont need to..

Around a year ago, India pulled out its support from the ‘One Laptop Per Child’ (OLPC) initiative. Now Human Resources Development ministry in India is seeking ways to develop a laptop that would cost an unbelievable $10.

The Indian government has two options. The first design is from a student at Vellore Institute of Technology and another from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, according to the Times of India.

At present, none of the two devices has managed to get the price to $10; in fact $47 is the lowest they could reach. Till now, the Indian government has not got any company to agree to produce the device, since building it for merely $10 would most probably mean that the manufacturer would have to take a significant loss.

Don't you think its crap ?? or is it really possible to make a $10 laptop ?? I think we lack practical thinking !! anyway ..lets see what happens..put in your comments !

Indian American astronaut Sunita Williams will attempt to do something 210 miles above Earth that no other astronaut has ever done. She will run the Boston Marathon while in orbit.

The 41-year-old plans to run the 26.2-mile race on a treadmill onboard the International Space Station (ISS) on Monday at 7:30 p.m. IST as this year's marathon begins in Boston at precisely the same hour.

Race organisers say this will be their first satellite venture, and they are thrilled about it. "Suni running 26.2 miles in space on Patriots' Day is really a tribute to the thousands of marathoners who are running here on Earth. She is pioneering new frontiers in the running world," said Jack Fleming of the Boston Athletic Association.

Growth takes off in a big way: Jet will have more than 50 per cent market share of domestic air traffic. 

The deal for Jet Airways buying Air Sahara is through. Air Sahara has been valued at around Rs 1,450 crore.
 
Harish Salve, the legal representative of Jet, said Rs 400 crore has to be paid to Air Sahara before April 20.

The deal was signed by Saroj Dutta representing Jet and Pallav Agarwal representing Air Sahara.

Despite the GRE registration being put on hold till July, there’s good news for all students planning to go to US for further studies.Wait for studying in US gets shorter.Two days is all it would take to get a student visa to the US in the near future, a senior official in the US' Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (BECA) said.

"Currently it takes a month to process an application. We intend to bring it down to 10 days soon and then meet the international standard of two days," BECA Deputy Assistant Secretary (academic programmes) Thomas Farrell said.

Indian-born Srinivasa S R Varadhan was Thursday named winner of the Norwegian Abel Prize, known as the "Nobel Prize for mathematics".

His contribution :

Varadhan’s theory of large deviations provides a unifying and efficient method for clarifying a rich variety of phenomena arising in complex stochastic systems, in fields as diverse as quantum field theory, statistical physics, population dynamics, econometrics and finance, and traffic engineering. It has also greatly expanded our ability to use computers to simulate and analyze the occurrence of rare events. Over the last four decades, the theory of large deviations has become a cornerstone of modern probability, both pure and applied.

“Varadhan’s work has great conceptual strength and ageless beauty. His ideas have been hugely influential and will continue to stimulate further research for a long time”, to quote the Abel Committee.

Award : 

He is expected to receive the Abel Prize from His Majesty, King Harald V of Norway, in Oslo on May 22nd. The honour is accompanied by a prize of $850,000.

This is the second time in three years that an NYU mathematician has been the recipient of the Abel Prize: in 2005, Professor Peter Lax of the Courant Institute was awarded the Abel.

Srinivasa S. R. Varadhan is currently Professor of Mathematics and Frank J. Gould Professor of Science at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University.

Prof. Varadhan - a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Royal Society and the Third World Academy of Sciences - has been the recipient of many awards and honours, including the Birkhoff Prize (1994), the Margaret and Herman Sokol Award of NYU's Faculty of Arts and Science (1995), and the American Mathematical Society's Leroy Steele Prize (1996), an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He is a fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the Indian Academy of Sciences. He received his B.Sc. Honours degree and M.A. from Madras University, and his Ph.D. from the Indian Statistical Institute in Calcutta.
