Railway Enquiry using SMS

Really saying i am fed up of people asking PNR status to others when they are not at their pc desk.indian_railways.gif Even though Railway has made such a nice service of Railway enquiry through sms, people hardly use it.even the so called " tech geeks" rarely use..then whats the use of technology when its not being used for making the work easier ! So atleast from now on use Railway SMS Enquiry service to know your PNR status. I know its difficult to remember all the codes for train list, seat availability, etc.. but atleast PNR status is simple !  : PNR <PNR NO> and send it to 676747

Or if you cannot remember carry a printout of the codes for it !! lol..nono..u dont need to..

here,do this to make your work easier !!

Here are the numbers to which you can send and get the info..

- 7886,676747,7070,8888   ( i like 676747 , as time of message reply back is faster..)

For example : You use 676747

To get the list of codes  … send . sms TRAIN to 676747

- Checking your PNR status

sms PNR <your PNR number> to 676747
eg: PNR 1234567891    or just send your PNRNo to 676747

- Checking for Trains running between two stations

sms TL < starting city > < ending city > to 676747
eg: TL Hubli Bangalore or use stations codes   eg: TL UBL SBC

- Checking for Ticket Availablity

sms TA <train number > <starting city> <ending city> <journey date > to 676747
eg. TA 6590 hubli bangalore 07May

Networks which Support 676747 :

8888 is busy.. many a times i have never got any reply from it..as its used for many other purposes, maybe it takes longer time to respond to this railway query !

So from now on use your mobile ONLY when you are not at your pc desk..

Happy railway smsing !

Google offers free directory assistance- GOOG-411

Google Labs recently launched a Google Voice Local Search, which is basically a free 411 searchgoog-411.png similar to 1-800-FREE-411.  Its an experimental service to make local-business search accessible over the phone.

You just need to call the number, you don’t need a computer, you don’t need an Internet connection, and you don’t even need to use your cell-phone keypad. It’s voice-activated, and you can access it from any phone (mobile or landline), in any location*, at any time.

To try this service, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone.

Its free of charge. However, your telephone company may apply regular charges for making a phone call or receiving an SMS.

* It’s currently only available in English, in the US, for US business listings.

Read books on your cellphone with Wattpad

Don't have time to read with your book wherever you go !! Then Wattpad is to your rescue . Itswattpad.png one of the best ways of reading your favorite books on cellphone . Wattpad maintains a community-built library of texts: novels, essays, joke collections and the like. You can also upload your own. There are several ways to get books onto your phone, including an app that enables direct downloads. When users have the client installed on their devices, it makes it possible to download additional stories and read them offline.

You can send the stories by sms or by email to  your cellphone and you get to read the whole text on your cellphone.

The application is a free download, either by mobile or on site . Huge list of books are available for reading and surprisingly all the books are with full text.

Wattpad is free, but it works by downloading the text a few pages at a time over your phones data connection - which is a constant expense. And we still need better phone screens sizes and resolution for reading. Some of the new phones - N73 and N95 for example and Samsung M610 are pretty darn good and have nice broad screens and even Blackberry 8800 and the new Windows Mobile devices. My friend used to read ebooks using lit reader on his Nokia N-Gag, it was bit irritating but when you want to read , you don't think of anything else other than the text in your display !

enjoy reading !

Google says it has no plans to build mobile phones

Google Inc. said its engineers are developing software for hand-held devices, and the companygoogle_software_23037.jpg has no plans to build mobile phones.

"We're not doing a mobile phone," Alan Eustace, senior vice president of engineering and research, said in an interview Thursday at Google's office in Atlanta. During an event earlier in the day, Eustace said, "I'd like to find something that is broader, rather than do yet another mobile device."

The remarks contradict reports on Web logs and online news sites this month that Mountain View, Calif.-based Google, the most-used Internet search engine, is working with a handset manufacturer to develop a phone.

Google, Yahoo! Inc. and Microsoft Corp. are racing to develop mobile products such as e-mail, online maps and search engines to tap consumers that want to surf the Web on the move. Mobile devices outsold personal computers by more than four to one in 2006, according to market research firm Gartner Inc.

“We believe Google is working with, not against Apple in the mobile world,'' Piper Jaffray & Co. analyst Gene Munster wrote yesterday in a note. Google is probably building mobile applications that will work with the iPhone and other devices, he said.

Engineers at Google's Atlanta office work on projects including the Google Earth mapping program and a software tool kit for writing Internet applications. Employees also work on programs to place and track ads on radio, print and television, said Scott Blum, an engineer in the office.

Get Ready for YouTube Awards 2006

youtube_2006_awards.jpgYouTube has launched the first ever YouTube Awards. Nominees in 7 different categories will recieve awards for most creative, most inspirational, best series, best comedy, musician of the year, best commentary, and most adorable. Voting by users has started on March 19 at about 2 PM Pacific Time. Mashable appears to have blogged about the story first.(link not live as of Sunday night), according to various reports.

This week viewers can vote to pick their favorites of 2006. It's kind of like the Oscars. Clicking on playlist shows a full listing of clips to vote.

There's much discussion highlighting that this isn't a new idea. In fact, the Vloggies did it last year and it was an complete excellent event organized.

Marshall Kirkpatrick from SplashCast has painstakingly taken the time to add all the nominated videos to a single SplashCast player, which I have embedded on the right side.. [via NewTeeVee] Video attached on the right..

This awards event should have taken place atleast in the first week of jan 2007 and not this late !! And I don't know why are they trying to make users vote again for the videos, already they have a rating system to vote for the best,by the users and even the editor's pick too.Dosen't it look unnecessary…. ..anyway ..who am i to comment on it !! go go.. Put your votes ..

Categories :

Most creative, Most inspirational, best series, best comedy, musician of the year, best commentary, and Most adorable.

Google’s Mobile Phone Coming Soon!

If companies like Apple Inc. or even Italian fashion designer Prada SpA can design a mobilegoogle_mobile_phone.jpg phone, why not Google Inc.?

A recent job opening posted on the Google Web site appears to confirm the company may now be tinkering with more than just an idea but with some real hardware in its engineering labs.

Today the head of Google in Spain and Portugal has confirmed that Google is working on a mobile phone. "Some of the time the engineers are dedicated to developing a mobile phone," Isabel Aguilera is quoted as saying on the Spanish news Web site Noticias.com.

Plus, Google has on its payroll. Andy Rubin, the founder of handheld device maker Danger who later started Android, a mobile-software maker that Google bought in 2005. Google also acquired mobile-applications company Reqwireless and Google secretly acquired a company called Skia, whose first product is a portable graphics engine that renders 2D graphics on handhelds.

"Some of the time the engineers are dedicated to developing a mobile phone," This could be the 20% free time development but publicizing that would be stupid. Obviously this phone could link in with Google Earth/Maps… it is a marketers dream for targeted advertising."
